COVID-19 health protocols were ignored on Friday after a crowd formed as a fight broke out between two vendors in Tondo, Manila.
According to Dano Tingcungco’s report on “24 Oras Weekend,” shops were closing at around 10 p.m. on Friday in Barangay 96 when the vendors started to fight.
Some of the individuals involved in the fight were not wearing their face masks properly. CCTV footage showed that the tussle lasted for 10 minutes.
Police stationed in the area to monitor health protocol compliance responded to the commotion and stopped the fight.
The barangay said the argument started after they reminded the shops to close down.
“Ang sabi ng kabila bakit parang sila ‘yung parating pinapapatay ang ilaw, sabi sa mga tanod. Ang sabi sa mga tanod, lahat naman pinaano. Eh, narinig nung kabilang parte. Nagsagutan na sila,” barnagay official Romero Bautista said.
(They asked the tanods why they were always being reminded to close down. They answered that this was a reminder for everyone. The other side heard this and then the argument started.)
“[H]indi naman nagkasakitan talaga ng husto. Parang nagkatapunan lang ng pitsel na may yelo,” he added.
(No one was hurt. But they threw pitchers filled with ice at each other.)
Bautista also stressed that they were not favoring any of the shops.
“Kaming barangay wala kaming pinapanigan sa inyo. Nasa gitna kami. Eto, para magkasundo-sundo kayo, ‘wag na kayong magparinigan. Kasi walang kahihinatnan ‘yan,” he said.
(The barangay does not side with anyone. We are in the middle ground. For you to work together, you should avoid taunting each other. That will lead to nowhere.)
Aside from a defamation complaint filed at the barangay, the vendors chose not to take any further action on the matter. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
