Authorities seized at least P59 million worth of smuggled garlic, onion, and other agricultural products in separate law enforcement operations in Valenzuela and Bulacan warehouses.
According to a report on GMA’s State of the Nation on Wednesday, personnel of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) confiscated at least P9 million worth of smuggled agricultural products in a warehouse in Valenzuela on October 8.
Meanwhile, P50 million worth of smuggled products were seized in Meycauayan, Bulacan on October 7.
The confiscated agricultural products will be burned and buried to ensure that they cannot be sold to the public.
Workers and personnel found in the warehouses were also arrested.
Authorities are still investigating the owners of the warehouses.
They will face charges for violation of the Agricultural Smuggling Act and other related provisions of the tariff and customs code of the Philippines.—Richa Noriega/LDF, GMA News
