27 dead, 14 missing due to Maring –NDRRMC

A total of 27 people were confirmed dead, 14 were missing, and two were injured due to the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Maring, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday.

In its report, the NDRRMC said that it is still validating information on 16 more fatalities, two missing, and three injured.

The total reported death toll was at 43.

A total of 1,032,220 people or 270,744 families were affected by Maring in 1,935 barangays in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Caraga, and Cordillera.

At least 260 individuals or 81 families were staying inside 17 evacuation centers, while 19,785 people or 4,316 families were taking temporary shelter in the houses of their relatives and friends.

Power interruption was experienced in 140 cities and municipalities, of which, 134 have been restored.

Water supply problems were encountered in 11 areas including 10 that are already fixed.

A total of 12,580 houses were damaged—11,943 partially and 637 totally—in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Caraga, and Cordillera.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA News
