Education officials in Zambales have postponed the pilot face-to-face classes in three out of the 10 participating schools after some teachers tested positive for COVID-19 in their antigen tests.
In a statement, the Schools Division of Zambales said San Marcelino National High School and Baliwet Elementary School, both in the municipality of San Marcelino, suspended the pilot classes after some teachers tested positive in their antigen tests conducted on November 14, 2021.
Meanwhile, Banawen ES in San Felipe delayed the first day of classes as teachers waited for the results of their tests.
“The Schools Division Superintendent ensures that classes will begin in these schools once the teachers and other personnel will have a negative result,” it said in a statement.
The Schools Division of Zambales reported that seven schools in the municipality of Botolan have successfully started their pilot classes after all 61 teachers tested negative and fulfilled their all preparatory requirements.
The pilot testing of face-to-face classes started on Monday in several low-risk areas in the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 100 public schools are participating in the pilot run subject to strict health protocols.
These schools are in areas deemed safe by both the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Health. —Jamil Santos/KBK, GMA News
