The empty roof deck of a condominium in Makati turned into a greenhouse after a plant rescuer filled the area with rehabilitated plants.
According to a “24 Oras” report by Oscar Oida, janitor Rene Pajutrao replanted dying plants he found in the garbage for his makeshift sanctuary.
“Sample ko lang kung tutubo o mabubuhay, parang challenge din yun pagka nabuhay mo,” Pajutrao said.
Grape, apple, lychee, lemon and avocado are among the fruit-bearing plants he is tending, along with decorative and indoor plant breeds like the elephant ear and the ruby rubber plant, which are sold in the market at high prices.
“Kailangan lagi mo siyang didiligan. Lilinisan kung may fertilizer, lagyan ng fertilizer pataba para gumanda para maging green,” he said.
Pajutrao said that planting was a habit he used to do back in his home in Mindoro, and it was his favorite way to resolve homesickness.
“‘Pag nagtanim ako dito ‘tas nakita kong lumago, parang nasa probinsya ako,” he said.
Condominium owner Francis Lia Robles said that the roof deck became a big help during the pandemic, as it served as a hangout spot for the building residents. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA News
