A stray bullet pierced through the wall of a house in Cadiz, Negros Occidental and ended the life of a child who was playing inside, according to Emil Sumangil’s “24 Oras” report on Friday.
Based on the police report, the one-year-old child was hit by the stray bullet in the head inside her house in Barangay Caduhaan.
“Ang bata ay nasa loob ng bahay. Tapos ang bala, lumusot sa dingding,” Police Lieutenant Alfonso Precia, deputy chief of Cadiz City Police Station, said.
(The child was inside the house when the bullet penetrated the wall.)
The child was immediately brought to the hospital but later succumbed due to her head injury.
The suspect identified as Norman Ayan Berto, a sea watchguard, surrendered with his .45 caliber gun.
“Pumunta siya rito at nag-voluntary surrender kasi alam naman niya na siya lang ang nagpaputok. Usually, parati siyang nagpapaputok. Nagpaputok siya nang walang dahilan,” Precia said.
(He came here and voluntarily surrendered because he knew that he was the only one who fired a shot. Usually, he always fires his gun for no reason.)
“Willing naman siya na harapin ang kaso. Pwede natin siyang kasuhan ng reckless imprudence resulting to homicide,” he added.
(He is willing to face the case. We can charge him with reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.)
The family of the victim said they will continue to file charges against the suspect to bring justice to the death of their child.
“Humihiling lang po sana ako na mabigyan ng hustisya yung pagkamatay ng anak ko,” Jason Abayon, father of the victim, said.
(I appeal for justice for the death of my child.)
