BIFF sub-leader, 10 others surrender to military in Maguindanao, says Army

A sub-leader of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and 10 of his men surrendered to the military in Maguindanao on Saturday, the Philippine Army said.

Alias OB10, a BIFF 2nd Division field commander under the Bungos faction, surrendered with his men in Barangay Kamasi in the municipality of Ampatuan, according to Philippine Army 2nd Mechanized Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Nadala Jr.

The BIFF members who surrendered were presented to Colonel Pedro Balisi Jr, commander of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, Datu Piang Mayor Victor Samama and former mayor of Datu Anggal Midtimbang Nathaniel Midtimbang.

They also surrendered their firearms as follows: two 5.56mm M16 rifles, one 7.62mm M14 rifle, one Springfield rifle, two Garand rifles, two locally made RPGs and two locally made Barret sniper rifles.

“The surrender was successful through the strong synergy and through the harmonious cooperation of the 2MechBn and 6IB together with PLTCOL Neftaly Donato, OIC, RIU15, PRO-BAR and PLTCOL Lendsy Sinsuat, PIU, MAG-PPO,” Philippine Army 6th Infantry Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Charlie Banaag said.

Meanwhile Major General Juvymax Uy, commander of the Joint Task Force Central and the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, commended the troops and the Maguindanao local government unit for the surrender of the BIFF sub-leader and members.

“The synergy between the security forces and the Local Government Unit manifests that we have an advantage in fighting against local terrorists in this part of the region. We can successfully thwart the enemies and stop them from committing dangerous acts through the cooperation of everybody. Rest assured the JTFC will continue to strengthen our relationships with the police and the LGUs and will never stop in hunting them down to ensure the safety of our people,” he said.

On Friday 12 BIFF members also surrendered to local government leaders of Datu Salibo, Maguindanao and Joint Task Force Central forces, the Army said. They were presented at the headquarters of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade, Barangay Kamasi, Ampatuan, Maguindanao. —KG, GMA News
