Reported deaths due to Paeng rise to 160 –NDRRMC

The number of reported fatalities due to Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) rose to 160, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Saturday. 

Of this number, 132 deaths have been confirmed while 28 are still for validation.

The number of missing meanwhile is now 29, of which 19 were confirmed and 10 are up for validation.

Those injured remained at 146, of which 108 are confirmed and 38 will be validated.

The NDRRMC also said 1,357,807 families or 5,410,102 individuals were affected by Paeng in 17 regions, 74 provinces, 834 cities/municipalities, and 10,056 barangays, according to its situational report.

Estimated cost of damage to infrastructure reached P5,435,525,437.88 while estimated damage to agriculture was pegged at P6,397,456,211.6053, the NDRRMC added.

Paeng first made landfall over Camarines Sur on October 29 then cut a path through the Luzon landmass, causing flooding and landslides in several areas.

It exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on October 31.

A total of 523 cities and municipalities were declared under a state of calamity due to Paeng’s onslaught, the NDRRMC said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
