DOH logs 1,134 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 18,252

The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday recorded 1,134 new COVID-19 cases, increasing the total nationwide caseload to 4,049,042.

This is the fifth straight day of more than 1,000 new cases being recorded, with 1,158 new infections tallied on Saturday.

The department last recorded fewer than 1,000 new daily cases on December 6, with 883.

Based on the DOH’s latest data, the country’s active cases decreased to 18,252 from 18,387 on Saturday. For three consecutive days, active cases have once again reached more than 18,000.

The number of recoveries climbed to 3,965,910 while the death toll rose by 24 to 64,880.

According to the DOH, the regions with the most cases in the last two weeks were the National Capital Region with 5,591 followed by Calabarzon with 2,260 and Central Luzon with 1,090.

The Health Department said at least 10,313 individuals were tested, while 314 testing labs submitted data on December 10.

DOH also said that the bed occupancy in the country was 23.6%, with 6,564 beds occupied, while 21,216 were vacant. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA Integrated News
