Up to 170,000 passengers are expected to flock to the ParaƱaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) on Monday as the long holiday weekend comes to an end.
Interviewed in a televised public briefing, PITX Corporate Affairs and Government Relations chief Jason Salvador said they anticipate travelers going back to their homes now that the Christmas and New Year festivities are over.
Around 123,000 passengers were recorded at PITX on Sunday alone, he said.
“Pero today dahil end na ng holiday season at last day na ng pagbabakasyon, inaasahan natin na ngayon talaga dadami ang mga pasahero natin pabalik sa kani-kanilang probinsya,” Salvador said, noting that they already logged around 40,000 passengers as of 10 a.m. on Monday.
(We expect that the number of passengers returning from their respective provinces will really increase today because the holiday season is over and it’s the last day of vacation.)
“Ang estimate natin na passenger count ngayon is around 160,000 to 170,000,” he added.
(Our estimate of passenger count today is around 160,000 to 170,000.)
By Tuesday, Salvador said they are still expecting many passengers to arrive at PITX to start a new work week this 2023.
He shared that the highest number of passengers was recorded on December 26 at 192,000. On Christmas Eve, around 93,000 passengers arrived at PITX.
“Nung [December] 29, nakapagtala tayo ng 141,000, tapos nung [December] 30 ay 146,000. So medyo marami-rami ang lumbas, kaya inaasahan natin na medyo marami rin ang babalik mamaya hanggang bukas pabalik dito sa Metro Manila,” he continued.
(On December 29, we recorded 141,000, then on December 30, it was 146,000. There were quite a lot of people who went out of Metro Manila, so we expect that there will also be a lot of them who will return back here later until tomorrow.) —KBK, GMA Integrated News
