Bill hiking disabled veterans monthly pension approved by House on second reading

The House of Representatives on Tuesday approved, on second reading, a bill that significantly increased veterans’ monthly disability pension.

House Bill 7939 increases the monthly disability pension of veterans to the following corresponding disability rates:

• P4,500 for those with disability rate of 10% to 30%
• P5,300 for those with disability rate of 31% to 40%
• P6,100 for those with disability rate of 41% to 50%
• P7,700 for those with disability rate of 51% to 60%
• P9,300 for those with disability rate of 71% to 90% and
• P10,000 for those with disability rate of 91% to 100%

The existing monthly disability pension amount only ranges from P1,000 to P1,700.

Likewise, House Bill 7939 provides for a monthly pension worth P1,700 for the veteran without a service-connected disability upon reaching the age of 70.

In addition, the bill states that the entitlement to the authorized disability pension will be prospective and limited to eligible living veterans only.

The funding for the said measure is charged under the Pension and Gratuity Fund (PGF). — DVM, GMA Integrated News
