Plumes from Taal Volcano went up from 900 meters on Sunday to 1,500 meters on Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
In its latest bulletin, PHIVOLCS said the plumes were drifting to the northwest direction.
PHIVOLCS added that an upwelling of hot volcanic fluids in the Main Crater Lake, as well as a vog, which is a smog or haze containing volcanic dust and gas, were also observed in the volcano.
One volcanic earthquake was recorded, and a total of 1,165 tons of sulfur dioxide emission from the volcano were reported on June 30.
A short-term inflation of the western Taal Volcano Island and long-term deflation of the Taal Caldera were also observed in the volcano.
Alert Level 1 is maintained over Taal Volcano, according to PHIVOLCS.
PHIVOLCS prohibits entry into Taal Volcano Island (Permanent Danger Zone or PDZ), especially the main crater and Daang Kastila fissures, and occupancy and boating on Taal Lake.
Flying any aircraft close to the volcano is also not allowed.
PHIVOLCS warned of possible hazards such as steam-driven, phreatic, or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
