Five killed in CamSur over land ownership conflict -PNP

At least five people were killed in Camarines Sur last week, including three minors, with police alleging that the killings were over a fight regarding land ownership.

The suspect was identified as a certain Arturo De Leon, who is now being investigated and pursued by police after the incident last Friday, November 5, 2021.

De Leon was alleged to have shot 72-year-old Romulo De Leon in the head in his residence in Barangay Tarusanan, Milaor, Camarines Sur.

Also fatally wounded were relatives Hobi and Robi De Leon Britanico, aged six and four respectively.

After the attack, Arturo was said to have proceeded to the residence of Romulo’s neighbor, Luzviminda Cobilla, where he supposedly shot and threw a grenade, fatally injuring Cobilla’s son Samuel and seven-year-old Noella.

All victims were brought to a nearby hospital where both Romulo and Samuel were declared dead on arrival, while the three children Robi, Hobi, and Noella later succumbing to their injuries.

“Matagal na nilang alitan sa lupa. Sama ng loob ng nag-ugat sa alitan ng lupa,” Police Captain Rosalinda Morales of the Milaor Municipal Police Staion said in a report on GMA’s “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday.

(They had an ongoing conflict due to land ownership. The conflict was caused by a grudge due to land ownership.)

For his part, Philippine National Police Chief Guillermo Eleazar said he had ordered the regional police unit to look deeper into the matter and ensure that justice was served immediately.

“Nagbigay na ako ng kautusan sa Regional Director ng PRO 5 na kilalanin at hulihin ang nasa likod nito sa lalong madaling panahon,” he said.

(I have already ordered the Regional Director of the Police Regional Office 5 to identify and pursue the individual behind this at the soonest possible time.)

“I’ve also directed all our regional directors to give me an update on their campaign against loose firearms in their respective areas of responsibility,” he added. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/DVM, GMA News
