Marcos condoles with kin of victims in Indonesia stampede, Thailand daycare shooting

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has extended his condolences to the families of those who were killed in the Indonesia soccer stampede and the Thailand nursery attack.

“We condole deeply with the families of those lost in the recent tragedies of the Indonesia football stampede and the Thailand daycare attack,” Marcos said in a statement.

“We pray for the recovery of the survivors, healing of those left behind, and that the departed may rest in peace,” Marcos added.

At least 129 people were killed and around 180 injured at a soccer match in Malang, East Java province in Indonesia after panicked fans were trampled and crushed trying to flee during a riot.

Video footage from local news channels showed fans streaming onto the pitch in the stadium in Malang after Arema FC lost to Persebaya Surabaya. Scuffles can be seen, with what appeared to be tear gas in the air.

Meanwhile in Thailand, a former police officer shot to death at least 37 people, many of them children, when he stormed a nursery in northeastern Nong Bua Lam Phu province at about 12:30 p.m. (0530 GMT).

Following the attack, gunman Panya Khamrab went home and killed his wife and child before taking his own life, police said.

National Police Chief Damrongsak Kittiprapat told a news conference the gunman killed 37 people, including 23 children and his own family, and wounded 12 others. —LBG, GMA News
