P1.2M worth of suspected smuggled cigarettes seized in Zamboanga

More than P1.2 million worth of suspected smuggled cigarettes were seized by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Zamboanga City.

In a statement, the PCG Station Zamboanga said it confiscated 1,798 reams of imported cigarettes valued at P1,258,600 from a truck that arrived at the Zamboanga City Port via a passenger vessel on October 9.

The PCG said they received information on the cargo prior to the vessel’s arrival, prompting them to conduct a physical examination.

Upon inspection, they discovered styrofoam containers loaded in the truck, which contained the suspected smuggled cigarettes.

The coast guard personnel turned over the confiscated goods and the truck operator to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition and appropriate filing of charges. —Sundy Locus/VBL, GMA News
