Office of the Press Secretary officer-in-charge Atty. Cheloy Garafil on Monday said the accreditation of vloggers to cover Malacañang is still being studied.
During the Senate budget hearing on the OPS’ proposed P1.04 billion for fiscal year 2023, Senator JV Ejercito asked Garafil if the plan to accredit vloggers would still push through.
“Talagang isa sa mga integral part ng program ng past PCOO, would we still accredit, mayroon pa ba tayong i-a-accredit na mga bloggers, vloggers? During the time of PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar and also this was brought by erstwhile Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles, would you still continue, Atty. Cheloy?” Ejercito asked.
In response, Garafil said the study on the matter is still ongoing.
“Tama po kayo, nagumpisa po ito last administration, pinagpatuloy po siya ng dating Secretary Trixie Angeles, ngayon po we will continue to conduct a study and evaluate kung pupuwede po sila maaccredit po sa pagcocover po sa Malacañang. Ongoing pa po study nito,” Garafil said.
(You are correct, this started during the last administration, it was continued by former Secretary Trixie Angeles, and now we will continue to conduct a study and evaluate if they can be accredited in covering Malacañang.)
Ejercito also asked if the vloggers would be given the same access as with the traditional media, noting that accountability is important during the coverage.
“Mr. Chair, kasama po ‘yan sa ating ineevaluate (it is included in our evaluation) so in time we will issue guidelines on how these can be done,” Garafil responded, adding that they will also seek the guidance of other sectors regarding the matter.
