Tugboat sinks off Occidental Mindoro; crewmen rescued

A tugboat sank on Saturday off Golo Island in Looc, Occidental Mindoro, and all of the crew members have been rescued, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Sunday.

Citing information from the PCG, Jhomer Apresto on Super Radyo dzBB said that the boat captain and seven crew members are now safe.

On Saturday, PCG personnel initially found five of the crewmen. They were identified as Alfie Dangue, boat captain; and crew Jerwin Adion, Ariel Sadje, Ronel Padon, and Gerald Manzano.

On Sunday morning, residents of Barangay Talaotao were able to rescue three other crew members identified as Joshua Brizal, Jerome Feildad, and a certain Jay.

 

Dangue said they were sailing from South Harbor in Manila to Rio Tuba, Palawan when they encountered a big wave around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, causing flooding in the engine room.

After a few minutes, the tugboat completely sank. —LBG, GMA News
