Customs busts P4.3 million worth of kush in Clark

Nearly three kilograms of suspected high-grade marijuana or “kush” worth over P4 million were seized by authorities in a shipment in Clark, Pampanga, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said Wednesday.

In a press statement, Customs officials said around 2.922 kilograms of illegal drugs valued at P4.383 million were found inside a cargo ship from Azusa, California, USA on October 23. It was initially declared to contain a “fishing net.”

A physical examination of the shipment, however, showed it contained one blue styrofoam sheet containing six vacuum-sealed packs of dried leaves suspected to be “kush.”

The samples were immediately turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, which confirmed the presence of Tetrahydrocannabinol/ Marijuana — considered a dangerous drug in the country under Republic Act (RA) No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

A warrant of seizure and detention was issued against the shipment for violation of Sections 118 (g), 119 (d), and 1113 par. f, I & l (3 & 4) of R.A. No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. in relation to Section 4 of R.A. No. 9165, the BOC said.

Around P129 million worth of illegal drugs have been intercepted in the Port of Clark for 2022, it added.—Sundy Locus/LDF, GMA News
