Reported death toll due to effects of bad weather now 45 –NDRRMC

The number of reported fatalities due to the effects of bad weather since January 1 has reached 45, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Saturday. 

Of this number, 20 have been confirmed while 25 fatalities are being validated, the NDRRMC said in its situation report for the combined effects of low pressure areas, Northeast Monsoon, and shear line.

Those injured remained at 11, two of which have been confirmed while nine are for validation.

The number of missing individuals, meanwhile, went down to seven, with one confirmed and six for validation.

The NDRRMC said 518,825 families or 2,138,567 individuals were affected in 14 regions.

Of this number, 9,713 individuals were displaced and evacuated from their homes.

Meanwhile, 14,405 were preemptively evacuated in Mimaropa, Region 5, Region 7, Region 8, Region 9, Region 11, and Caraga.

The total number of damaged houses went up to 1,891, with 1,328 partially damaged, and 563 totally damaged. Estimated total cost of damaged houses is P3,716,000.

Damage to infrastructure was estimated at P521,914,324.68, with 266 infrastructures.

Agricultural damage cost was estimated to have reached P1,135,474,100.18. Of this, P62,044,897.50 is the estimated damage to livestock, poultry, and fisheries.

Meanwhile, 47,318.50 farmers and fisherfolk were affected. The crop damage was reported in 56,110.115 hectares.

Eighty-six areas were placed under a state of calamity.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) and localized thunderstorms will bring rain showers over several parts of the country on Saturday. —KG, GMA Integrated News
