The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) on Friday announced that four coastal areas were found positive for paralytic shellfish poison or toxic red tide that is beyond the regulatory limit.
The BFAR said all types of shellfish and acetes, also known as alamang, gathered from the following areas are not safe for human consumption:
- Coastal waters of Milagros in Masbate
- Coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol
- Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur
- Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur
“Fish, squids, shrimps, and crabs are safe for human consumption provided that they are fresh and washed thoroughly, and internal organs such as gills and intestines are removed before cooking,” the agency said on its latest shellfish bulletin.
Meanwhile, the BFAR said San Pedro Bay in Samar is now free of the toxic red tide.—Richa Noriega/AOL, GMA Integrated News
