NCR positivity rate slightly down from 19.1% to 18.1%, says OCTA

The COVID-19 positivity rate in the National Capital Region (NCR) has slightly decreased to 18.1% as of October 7, the OCTA Research Group said Sunday.

In a tweet, OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said this was a decrease from 19.1% recorded on October 1.

Positivity rate refers to the percentage of people found positive for COVID-19 against the total number of individuals tested at a given period.

Likewise, David said that the positivity rates in Batangas (from 13.9% to 10.9%), Bulacan (from 20.4% to 17.7%), and Laguna (19.7% to 16.9%) have similarly decreased.

Positivity rate over 20%

Meanwhile, David said that the COVID-19 positivity rate in three provinces was over 20%.

Tarlac’s positivity rate increased from 23.5% on October 1 to 32.8% on October 7, based on OCTA Research data.

Other provinces seen surpassing the 20% mark are Rizal (26.1%) and Cavite (24%).

Increases in other provinces

On the other hand, David said that the positivity rate in Pampanga in Central Luzon, and Davao del Sur in Mindanao increased to 19.5% and 13.4%, respectively.

He also cited increases resulting in the present positivity rates in the provinces of Benguet (9.3%), Cebu (5.7%), Iloilo (8.7%), and Negros Occidental (5.5%).

On Saturday, the Philippines registered 2,197 new COVID-19 cases, the third straight day of more than 2,000 new daily cases reported.

Based on its latest bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) said that active infections dropped slightly to 27,065 from 27,129 on Friday.

Regions with the highest number of new cases in the last 14 days include: the National Capital Region with 12,587; Calabarzon with 5,331; Central Luzon with 2,811; Davao Region with 1,327; and Western Visayas with 844. —LBG, GMA News
